I'm due in for a skin peel but I'm terrified of the long term side effects. I heard somewhere that the peels might cause skin cancer.
Can anyone advice please on long term effects.
Thank you

Medium Skin Peels?
Hi, there are different types of peels out there. To make it easy, there are light, medium and strong. The light would be the ones you can buy over the counter now, such as the loreal one or you could have a light one at a clinic. These will only cause a light peeling that you will hardly notice and will just give the same results as say, micro-dermabrasion. The medium peels you would have at a clinic such as a TCA peel. TCA peels also come in differents percentages, (i had a 25% one myself) and can be quite painful when applied - although they will usually only be on for about 2mins. These cause the skin to go very dark and then completley peel over the course of a week. You will not be able to go anywhere for a 5 to 7 days, as you will look shocking! Afterwards your skin will be a little more sensitive for about 3 months and so will need protecting if you live in a sunny climiate. The stronger peels are not really used anymore as you are usually asleep for them - sometimes people have them at the same time as a face-lift - and these are so deep that they can cause skin bleaching permanently (you may not tan on your face again). Hope this has been of some help to you. Just to let you know though - even though i had a medium peel - i was not amazed with the results like i thought i would be! And i have since been advised that the best way to improving your skin is to have regular LIGHT peels and do it gradually. That way, you have no down time, limit any skin sensitivity, its pain free and you don't run the risk of getting pigmentation marks (which is a risk with deeper peels). GOOD LUCK!
