Dry flaking sensitive skin help?

i have amazingly dry skin- so dry that it flakes. i have tried using lotions, moisturisers, mild moisturising cleansers etc, but none of them seem to work. worst of all, whenever i wash or apply the moisturisers etc, my face will start tingling and stinging like as if its on fire. it hurts to even wipe my face with a towel after i wash. occasionally, the stinging sensation persists for a few hours.

can anyone help me identify if this is some skin condition? or is it just an extreme case of dry skin?

also, any advice?

thank you.

Reply:See a skin specialist
Reply:You have very sensitive skin. You should use only hypoallergenic products. See a dermatologist. He can tell you the best way to care for your skin.
Reply:Sounds like U have an allergy to something in the lotions or material of towel. U need to see a dermatologist. My daughter had a similar reaction to suntan lotion. It took us a long time to find one she was not allergic to. Good luck
Reply:The source below discusses dry skin care. There is also a section on sensitive skin care.
Reply:Have had similar skin all of my life. Here are some suggestions:

See a Dermatologist They can help to sort out the cause of the problem and prescribe any medications that are needed. And even if you saw one in the past try again as there are new treatments all of the time.

Stop using harsh soaps, or in some cases any soap, and hot water on your skin. Harsh soaps dry the skin and hot water can irritate already sensitive skin. Do not scrub your face with a wash cloth when you shower. Wash gently with warm water. If you are scrubbing in hopes of removing the skin flakes you are setting up the underlying skin to flake also.

I currently use Aveeno Ultra Calming soap and lotion. They have been a God send. I have experienced the stinging that you talk about and the Aveeno has completely relieved it.

Skin problems are very frustrating and you may never figure out what the cause is. I see my dermatologist every 6 months and I can totally identify with your problem having had hypersensitive skin since I was 18mo old. With persistence, and assistence from a physician you should be able to achieve some degree of control and comfort.

Good luck to you.
