Dry Skin, Dry Scalp...any remedies?

I live in Oklahoma, and winter is especially dry. My poor skin, especially my scalp, is so dry and flaky! Not pretty! My stylist said not to use a dandruff shampoo b/c it's not dandruff, and it will make it worse. She suggeted applying my hair conditioner directly to the scalp. That leaves me with limp, greasy hair!!! I'm getting totally frustrated. Anyone have any other suggestions? Also, any favorite lotions for my skin? NOTE: I am pregnant, so I can't use anything with retinol, or vitamin A, and I don't want to take anything internally that is questionable.

Well, I'd have suggested Vitamin E, but for your note. Pregnancy hormones can have awful effects on skin and hair. One thing you can do is take shorter, cooler showers (I know it's winter, but hot water dries out your skin.)

Also see if you can go a few days between washing your hair - you may need to brush it more to redistribute the natural oils your scalp will produce. I have long hair and my hairstylist agrees that some people, like me, shouldn't wash their hair every day (this myth was started in the late 1950s and early 60s - your grandmother sure didn't wash her hair every day!)

I cannot say this enough times. vaseline, vaseline, vaseline. Trust me. it works, i had the same problem a couple of years ago and vaseline worked!
Reply:TeaTree Oil you can find it in local drug stores or online.
Reply:Once a week use the actual vitamin e capsules open them up and massage on scalp leave for a bit then shampoo with a clarifying shampoo a few times. Eucerin does good but do it twice a day(for skin). Before you go to bed at night and after showers light vaseline to hold moisture in only on your skin. Wear hats out in the cold. Try not taking so hot of showers. And your hairdresser was right you have to get the "right" dandruff shampoo as most cater to oily scalps where it will dry it more. Try using a clarifying shampoo depending on how often you wash your hair to help lift that off and keep your hair lighter and from being weighed down. These are all safe things for pregnancy. Stimulate your scalp more with scalp manipulations and massage. It promotes the follicles to produce more oils and circulation.
Reply:Sulfur8, Vaseline, or Tea Tree Oil can clear your dry scalp in no time. Vaseline and/or Cocoa Butter can cure that dry skin problem in no time.
Reply:Aww pregnancy hair..I remember it well. Sadly there isnt too much to do but i can tell you what I did... Once a week... I put mayonaise on my scalp and hair for about ten minutes... Then washed it out with shampoo... Don't use Conditioner... Conditioner is what stays on your scalp causing the white flakes. As for your dry skin I don't know if they Have Badger Balm in Oklahoma, but im sure they must have some kind of palm.... Stear clear of lotions, you want more of an oil based moisturiser so it repells water that makes your skin dry... Good luck and Happy Pregnancy
