Anyone Had A Skin Infection/Boil?

If anyone has had a skin infection or boil... please if you could answer a few questions for me, I'd appreciate it. Or any medical professionals that can advise, I would appreciate it. If you had a skin infection/boil... 1. How long did it take to drain on it's own if it did drain on it's own. 2. If you had to take antibiotics, how long did it take for infection to subside. 3. If you didn't take antibiotics, what happened? 4. What were the signs of infection? 5. Did the drainage hurt? 6. What did you do to treat/prevent further infection afterwards? I appreciate the help... I go to another doctor tomorrow for a 2nd opinion. My doctor was VERY concerned today and people are wondering why. What was a sebaceous cyst is now a skin infection. My doctor mentioned cluster, and glands in her evaluation. She said the redness is sign of infection as well as the swelling and tenderness. I'm very upset right now, confused and worried.

Most boils drain within a week or so, sooner if you apply heat to the spot. Antibiotics really don't have a lot of effect on speeding that up, they just help boost the body's ability to concentrate on the area in question and help prevent opportunistic bacteria from setting in. Once the boil drains, or is surgically drained, antibiotics usually show signs of effectiveness within about 3-5 days, with a lessening of the redness and pain in the local area. When it's necessary to drain an abscess, most doctors will use a local anesthetic to deaden the skin in the area. The stick to numb things can burn or hurt, but the actual procedure doesn't. A sebaceous cyst can become an abscess if it grows large enough to involve the sebaceous gland- what you would recognize as a sweat gland. The pore that drains it has gotten blocked or never existed, but the gland doesn't know that, and it continues to produce sweat. As it is a part of the body, the immune system usually ignores it. But in some cases it can grow large enough to cause problems in surrounding skin, or it may rupture beneath the skin. Then the immune system will attack it, and you do get the redness, swelling and tenderness in the area. It may be infected if there was a pimple or blackhead nearby, or if bacteria from the skin got into the area. In that case, you could have a "cluster" or group of these cysts- created by the body trying to wall things off. The simplest way to treat a boil or abscess is with moist heat to the spot. Then it tends to drain itself. In cases where there are mulitple cysts, or an abscess isn't wanting to drain, or if it's in a spot that is simply unbearable, the doctor may opt to surgically incise and drain it, or try to remove all the cysts in question. Incising is just a nick to let the thing drain. To attempt to remove a cyst or a group of them, the doctor makes a shallow cut in the skin, and slightly pulls it apart. The cysts usually surface by themselves, thanks to the pressure and their round shape. Then they can be removed. Afterwards the doctor puts in a few stitches, a bandage, gives you a presciption for an antibiotic and you are on your way. You heal with a small scar at the spot, not a big deal usually. As a general rule, it's not a big deal, and it all sounds a lot more impressive than it is. I've seen lots of them, and I don't think any of them have been particularly deadly. Painful, miserable beggars no doubt, but fairly straightforward to take care of. Just think of it as a real super zit, if it will help. Look up about sebasceous glands on the web, and then you will have a better grip on what is causing the problem. And try to stay calm until the second doctor sees it. It may mean a minor procedure to get rid of, but honestly it's a pretty easy one to have done.

all i can say is sometimes they go away on their own just don't try to bust ........start by putting a very warm rag on it for a while if it doesn't bust on its own in a day or two go to the doctor they might give u antibiotics or they might just cut it open a little %26amp; drain it out %26amp; their still gonna give u the antibiotics so that the infection can go away
